Getting stuff done with ADHD is like climbing Mount Everest in sneakers. It can be done, but not easily or productively.

On the other hand, good productivity hacks and strategies are helpful — but only if you use them. So how do you keep showing up and learning how to apply the solid strategies you’ve accumulated but not successfully executed? A resilient mindset can keep you hiking up that mountain toward what really matters to you.

Learn the strategies that will help you gain the motivation and momentum you need to stay on track at work and in your personal life. In this webinar, you will learn:

  • Why it’s important to cut yourself some slack; changing habits is hard.
  • To notice the effort you’re putting in and the strategies that you are using—then keep going.
  • How to keep your eye on the prize by being clear about what you’re working toward.

Strategies to get through the inescapable boring stuff with the least amount of suffering.

ADHD brings with it intense emotions, impatience, and stress — and our inability to regulate these feelings affects everyday life as well as our most important relationships. We overreact to situations and feel angry or dejected due to real or perceived criticism. We have trouble calming down and sometimes react in ways that we later regret.

Mindfulness and related contemplative practices offer a powerful counterbalance to these feelings. They are valuable tools that aid in stress reduction, self-awareness, cognitive flexibility, self-compassion, habit change, and more. And here’s the good news: Contrary to popular belief, these practices do not require a still mind and body. When these practices are integrated with a proactive approach to physical health, they can create a stable emotional foundation that supports comprehensive, evidence-based ADHD care.

In this webinar, you will learn:

  • How ADHD impairs executive function and contributes to emotional dysregulation
  • About the clinical importance of addressing emotional health as a foundational step in ADHD treatment planning
  • How unmanaged emotional reactivity disrupts adherence to evidence-based ADHD interventions
  • How to evaluate the role of mindfulness and contemplative practices in promoting emotional self-regulation and cognitive flexibility
  • How to apply specific mindfulness-based strategies to support comprehensive, individualized ADHD care across clinical settings.

Summer is tricky. The break from school is liberating and renewing, but for children with ADHD, the long days and lack of structure can lead to meltdowns and screentime overuse — common complaints among parents. With the right strategies and thoughtful routines, however, caregivers can build the summer-specific structure needed to ease transitions, encourage ongoing organization, and smooth the bumps of school break.

In this interactive webinar, viewers will have the opportunity to ask questions to Dave Anderson, Ph.D., an expert in child behavioral development, and gain practical strategies to create a balanced summer routine that promotes fun and reduces stress.

In this webinar, you will learn:

  • How to maintain a semi-structured schedule that supports consistency and reduces anxiety
  • Effective strategies to help manage kids’ video game and other tech device use
  • How to set realistic goals for your child and use small rewards to encourage progress
  • The importance of fostering your child’s independence while maintaining behavioral boundaries for a smooth, enjoyable summer.

Does your teen with ADHD overreact to small comments, withdraw suddenly, or seem constantly on edge? They may experience rejection sensitive dysphoria (RSD), a phenomenon common with ADHD. Not a formal diagnosis, RSD refers to intense feelings of pain following an actual or perceived rejection; a person with RSD may anticipate someone pulling back friendship, love, or support over a gesture, a misunderstanding, or a small disagreement.

Parenting teens with ADHD typically means navigating intense emotional storms, executive functioning challenges, and unpredictable hormonal shifts. When you add RSD to the mix, this combination can feel overwhelming and exhausting for everyone.

This webinar is designed to increase your ability to understand what’s really going on beneath the surface and to offer support through the ups and downs of adolescent sensitivity with compassion and clarity. Award-winning author, international speaker, and consultant Dr. Sharon Saline will explain how to manage the heightened emotional sensitivity in teens that often accompanies ADHD. After discussing the science behind RSD and how it relates to social anxiety, she will explore how hormonal changes in adolescence amplify emotional intensity and increase dysregulation in teens. Dr. Saline will show you how to assist kids in identifying triggers, reducing negative self-talk, and lowering shame. You’ll learn practical, evidence-based strategies for helping your adolescents feel more in control of their emotions, more connected to you, and more confident in themselves.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the connections between ADHD and RSD in teens
  • Learn how hormonal changes during puberty impact brain development, mood swings, and emotional sensitivity
  • Recognize common signs of Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria (RSD) in teens, including emotional shutdowns or outbursts
  • Gain practical tools for de-escalating emotional outbursts and helping your teen name, manage, and recover from big emotions
  • Explore communication strategies that foster trust, reduce shame, and build resilience

“A Parenting Toolkit for Moms and Dads with ADHD” [Video Replay & Podcast #547] https://www.additudemag.com/webinar/parents-with-adhd/ https://www.additudemag.com/webinar/parents-with-adhd/?noamp=mobile#comments Thu, 30 Jan 2025 16:25:33 +0000 https://www.additudemag.com/?post_type=webinar&p=370692 Episode Description

Parents with ADHD who are parenting a child with ADHD face a double dose of executive dysfunction, emotional dysregulation, disorganization, and impulsivity. When both parents and children have trouble with time management, planning, and other ADHD symptoms, those difficulties multiply, making neurodivergent-specific parenting skills and strategies essential for the family’s wellbeing.

But here’s a twist: In our treatment program for children with ADHD, we learned that the parenting strategies and techniques that worked best for moms with ADHD weren’t always the same interventions that dads with ADHD found most helpful. In this webinar, we will discuss why parenting can be more challenging when mothers and/or fathers have ADHD. We’ll also discuss the skills and strategies that mothers and fathers with ADHD have reported as being the most helpful when it comes to parenting their children with ADHD.

In this webinar, you will learn:

  • About the challenges of parenting children with ADHD when parents also have the condition
  • About parenting skills that effectively address common challenging behaviors and situations involving children with ADHD
  • About the parenting strategies and skills preferences for mothers and fathers with ADHD who participated in a child treatment program for children with ADHD

“How Sleep Disorders Impact Every Aspect of Life with ADHD” [Video Replay & Podcast #541] https://www.additudemag.com/webinar/sleep-disorders-adhd-insomnia/ https://www.additudemag.com/webinar/sleep-disorders-adhd-insomnia/?noamp=mobile#respond Wed, 18 Dec 2024 16:30:22 +0000 https://www.additudemag.com/?post_type=webinar&p=368372 Episode Description

Sleep problems are among the most frequent co-occurring disorders in people with ADHD. Research has shown that many people with ADHD even suffer from more than one sleep disorder, often of different etiology. Science has not yet solved the questions arising from these findings, but we do know that sleep loss impairs concentration, memory, mood stability, and the immune system’s functioning, increasing risk for infections and allergies. Not surprisingly, ADHD is associated with many allergies and infections. The importance of good sleep and its association with overall health cannot be overstated.

The good news is that most sleep disorders can be treated effectively, and doing so can reduce ADHD symptoms and lead to improved health and wellness.

In this webinar, you will learn:

  • Why people with ADHD commonly suffer with sleep problems and disorders
  • About the different kinds of sleep disorders, including the circadian sleep-wake disorder, delayed sleep phase type, insomnia, restless legs, periodic limb movement disorder and sleep apnea
  • How researchers are working to better understand the close relationship between ADHD and sleep disorders
  • About treatment study findings that show low-dose melatonin, bright light therapy and other interventions may help reduce ADHD symptoms and lead to better overall health.

“Managing ADHD and Emotion Dysregulation with Dialectical Behavior Therapy” [Video Replay & Podcast #530] https://www.additudemag.com/webinar/dialectical-behavior-therapy-dbt-for-adhd/ https://www.additudemag.com/webinar/dialectical-behavior-therapy-dbt-for-adhd/?noamp=mobile#respond Tue, 15 Oct 2024 20:14:23 +0000 https://www.additudemag.com/?post_type=webinar&p=365369 Episode Description

Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based treatment designed to help individuals who struggle with emotional dysregulation, aggression, self-harm, and other problem behaviors. DBT is an intensive, highly structured program that was originally created for adults in the 1970s and has since been adapted for children and adolescents. It can be an effective treatment for ADHD because it aids in the development of skills that support emotional regulation, problem-solving, and self-acceptance.

DBT works by helping children develop skills that decrease unwanted feelings and unhelpful behaviors, as well as skills that help them to accept difficult feelings about themselves and others without judgment. DBT patients participate in one-on-one therapy, group skills training, and/or phone coaching from their therapist. Parents learn the same skills as their children so that they can reinforce those skills outside of therapy.

In this webinar, you will learn:

  • About the conditions that DBT treats in children and adolescents, and who would be a good fit for this therapy
  • About DBT as a treatment model and how it works
  • How DBT can support children and adolescents in managing mood, impulsivity, and anxiety
  • About DBT strategies to support children in distress

“How to Handle Disappointing Grades: Why It’s Happening, How to Help” [Video Replay & Podcast #529] https://www.additudemag.com/webinar/bad-grades-report-card-adhd/ https://www.additudemag.com/webinar/bad-grades-report-card-adhd/?noamp=mobile#respond Mon, 07 Oct 2024 14:12:26 +0000 https://www.additudemag.com/?post_type=webinar&p=364170 Episode Description

Bad grades are not always a fair reflection of your child’s effort, learning, motivation, or potential for success. And this is especially true for students with ADHD and other learning differences. On the surface, disappointing grades represent a failure at school. But there’s usually more to the story, which may never be heard because strong emotions — for parents and students — take over.

So how can we respond more positively and thoughtfully to a bad report card? Here to suggest solutions is Ann Dolin, M.Ed., an experienced author, educator, advocate, and parent of kids with ADHD who will help parents uncover possible reasons for their child’s grades and show them how to navigate these sticky situations while preserving their relationship with their child.

In this webinar, you will learn:

  • How to talk to your child about their school performance, including some easy conversation starters
  • Ways to investigate why it’s happening and the two most common reasons for poor grades
  • What to do moving forward, including strategies to help your child study more effectively and stay organized
  • Whether you should set consequences for your child’s bad grades (or reward them for good grades) and how to keep kids with ADHD motivated

Dating fires up the dopamine that ADHD brains crave. Developing a relationship is new, exciting, and sometimes all-consuming — all of which can create elation and/or a perfect storm for ADHD traits like impulsivity, emotional sensitivity, and hyperfocus to ignite a fire. In this webinar, we’ll explore the complexities of online dating profiles and connections, first meetings, and the early stages of relationships — and introduce the process of mindful, conscious dating.

Join Master Certified Relationship Coach Amie Leadingham as we delve into dating apps, and learn why impulsivity, novelty-seeking, and people-pleasing can draw people with ADHD to prospects who appear to be risk-takers but not ideal partners. You’ll learn the importance of presenting your authentic self, setting healthy boundaries, and recognizing potential red flags. This isn’t just about finding love. It’s about embracing who you are on the road to discovering the healthy relationship you deserve.

In this webinar, you will learn:

  • Strategies for creating an effective online dating profile that showcases your authentic self
  • How to identify potential red flags and read between the lines in other people’s profiles
  • Guidance on navigating common dating scenarios, including love bombing, impulsivity, and ghosting
  • Techniques for setting and maintaining healthy boundaries

“OCD in Children with ADHD: Navigating the Dual Diagnosis” [Video Replay & Podcast #526] https://www.additudemag.com/webinar/ocd-in-children-with-adhd/ https://www.additudemag.com/webinar/ocd-in-children-with-adhd/?noamp=mobile#respond Mon, 16 Sep 2024 21:36:31 +0000 https://www.additudemag.com/?post_type=webinar&p=363369 Episode Description

ADHD and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) are brain-based disorders that co-exist at elevated rates. Studies have found that approximately 21% of children with OCD have ADHD as well, though some clinicians estimate an even higher co-occurrence rate. For caregivers, navigating a dual diagnosis of pediatric OCD and ADHD can be confusing and counterintuitive because these conditions may seem contradictory.

Contrary to commonly held beliefs, many pediatric OCD presentations have little or nothing to do with the fear of germs. In fact, the number one compulsion for both adults and children with OCD is avoidance. For example, a child may see school as a trigger for social phobia, causing panic and anxiety.

In this one-hour webinar, caregivers and educators will deepen their understanding of OCD and learn how to identify and support this dual diagnosis in children with ADHD.

In this webinar, you will learn:

  • About common misconceptions pediatric presentations of OCD, which have led to chronic underdiagnosing
  • How to identify the less common presentations of OCD, using examples of common OCD presentations in neurodivergent children
  • How OCD and ADHD can interfere with learning. For example, OCD can lead to and intensify school avoidance
  • About the treatment of concurrent OCD and ADHD, which usually involves medication, parent training, school-based accommodations, and Exposure Response Prevention therapy
  • About typical outcomes and common roadblocks to recovery

“A Patient’s Guide to Talking with Your Doctor About ADHD and Menopause” [Video Replay & Podcast #525] https://www.additudemag.com/webinar/talk-to-your-doctor-menopause-adhd/ https://www.additudemag.com/webinar/talk-to-your-doctor-menopause-adhd/?noamp=mobile#respond Tue, 10 Sep 2024 19:30:25 +0000 https://www.additudemag.com/?post_type=webinar&p=363021 Editor’s note: In this webinar, we discussed the safety considerations for menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) and hormone replacement therapy (HRT). To clarify, in addition to the contraindications to transdermal MHT/HRT that were discussed (history of breast cancer and complicated diabetes), there may be other relative contraindications for oral MHT, such as a history of thrombosis or migraines. These were not fully addressed due to time constraints. Importantly, transdermal estrogen is generally considered safe for individuals with a history of thromboses, and certain formulations of local (vaginal) estrogens can be used by all women without time restraint. For specific questions and concerns, consult your healthcare provider.

Episode Description

Brain fog, emotional meltdowns, and fear of dementia. Perimenopausal women with ADHD face these and myriad other challenges to brain and body due to hormonal changes during their final reproductive years. Many women, with and without ADHD, are not fully aware of the hormonal processes that start up to 10 years before menopause. During this busy time of life, many women carry great responsibility for children, aging parents, career, and family logistics. Already burdened by stress, most women assume the physical and psychiatric symptoms of perimenopause are unavoidable. At the same time, they struggle to understand and effectively treat their changing ADHD symptoms during this time of hormonal transition, which has been largely ignored by medical research to date.

All of this is true, however many researchers and clinicians continue to dismiss patients’ concerns saying that “there are no studies exploring adult or older women” or “there is no evidence to support advice on adjustment of medication or other treatment efforts for (peri)menopausal women.” It is, of course, important to base our medical advice on the best available research. But is it ethical to allow adult women with ADHD to suffer just because researchers and clinicians haven’t paid them enough attention?

We think not! That is why I’m passionate about doing the best and the most we can and to communicate the evidence that actually exists.

In this webinar, you will learn the following information to share with your clinician:

  • How the ADHD brain reacts to fluctuating hormones in vulnerable periods of the female life
  • How you can differentiate between ADHD and menopausal symptoms
  • How the “swinging” decrease of estrogen and progesterone during perimenopause can worsen ADHD symptoms and influence medication effect
  • How psychiatric and physical symptoms interplay with ADHD in (peri)menopause
  • How to treat ADHD and menopausal symptoms in adult females
  • How the ADHD life beyond menopause can look

“Is RSD Poisoning Your Relationship? How to Reduce Shame & Build Stronger Connections” [Video Replay & Podcast #524] https://www.additudemag.com/webinar/rsd-meaning-impact-relationships-adhd/ https://www.additudemag.com/webinar/rsd-meaning-impact-relationships-adhd/?noamp=mobile#respond Tue, 27 Aug 2024 20:03:30 +0000 https://www.additudemag.com/?post_type=webinar&p=362006 Episode Description

Do you ever feel so wrecked by a critique or comment from your partner that you can’t seem to recover for days? Or do you feel silenced and stuck because your partner interprets any constructive feedback as disapproval, and reacts in the extremes?

ADHD complicates relationships on its own, but adding rejection sensitive dysphoria (RSD) to the equation almost always amplifies the strife. RSD describes unbearable, painful feelings related to a real or a perceived rejection, and the ensuing belief that people will pull back their love and support. This heightened sensitivity intensifies reactions to the natural ups and downs of relationships and increases interpersonal conflict, hostility, and hurt. It can be very complicated for couples to manage conflict, discuss delicate subjects, and process emotions successfully.

In this webinar, Dr. Sharon Saline will show you how to manage the special challenges that arise in relationships touched by RSD and ADHD. You will learn how to navigate the thorny path of RSD in relationships and shift toxic patterns to healthier interactions. She’ll teach you how both partners can better regulate and handle challenging conversations with less blame, negativity, and over-personalizing while fostering connection and closeness. Dr. Saline will offer concrete strategies for making repairs, creating effective bids for connection, using collaboration for disagreements, and improving relational empathy. You will leave with practical tools to listen and reduce reactivity.

In this webinar, you will learn…

  1. How rejection sensitivity dysphoria works and manifests in adults
  2. How RSD impacts relationships and creates special challenges
  3. Effective strategies for coping with typical patterns of conflict in couples
  4. How to reduce reactivity and improve communication with greater empathy

“Smart Money Habits for People with ADHD” [Video Replay & Podcast #522] https://www.additudemag.com/webinar/how-to-budget-impulse-buying-adhd/ https://www.additudemag.com/webinar/how-to-budget-impulse-buying-adhd/?noamp=mobile#respond Tue, 20 Aug 2024 19:46:25 +0000 https://www.additudemag.com/?post_type=webinar&p=361746 Episode Description

Smart money management eludes ADHD brains for various neurological and psychological reasons. Emotional dysregulation and dopamine-seeking ADHD brains can drive impulsive spending — an unhelpful coping mechanism. Executive functioning weaknesses can get in the way of paying bills on time, budgeting, and planning for financial success. And weak working memory may mean buying (and losing) the same item over and over again.

Here’s how the ADHD Tax affects some of my clients: They forget to pay their bills on time, incurring mounting late fees, even though they had funds in their bank account to cover the initial expenses. Some struggle to save for emergencies, such as losing a job or making a house repair. Others make a good salary but live paycheck-to-paycheck, wondering how they’ll be able to afford a child’s college or to live comfortably in retirement.

In this webinar, you’ll learn how to harness the strategies and habits that have helped many of my neurodivergent clients live their best financial lives. You will understand how to set your intention and overcome common ADHD-related money struggles to score small wins and even save for longer-term goals. We also will address several readers’ most pressing financial struggles so that everyone listening can benefit from sound practical advice.

In this webinar, you will learn:

  • How ADHD traits get in the way of reaching your financial goals
  • How to short-circuit impulsive spending
  • How to use automation and technology to budget, pay bills on time, reduce debt, and get other small financial wins
  • How to identify goals and harness the motivation to stay on track and ignite financial success
  • How to build a financial plan for today, tomorrow, and the future
